Start here: one short reading, one question
Help shape a future Club conversation by proposing a question people could reasonably disagree about.
Question: What single question would you like the Club to debate, and which short reading could help us begin?
Short reading: Browse the guide’s five questions for a text, or choose one paragraph from your own reading. Suggest a focused question and one accessible starting source.
A few sentences are enough to begin. Offer one reason or example, or ask a question about the reading. Add your response below; the longer readings and recordings are optional.
What question should the History of Ideas Reading Club explore next? Use the comments below to propose a thinker, text, historical problem or contested idea that could sustain a serious public conversation.
What makes a strong suggestion?
- A clear question rather than only a broad topic
- A connection to intellectual history, political thought or the history of ideas
- Scope for reasonable disagreement and more than one defensible answer
- A subject that can be approached through an accessible article and podcast conversation
Help us understand your idea
When you comment, tell us:
- Your proposed debate question
- Why it matters now
- Which thinkers, texts or historical examples might illuminate it
- Whether there is a particular disagreement you would like the Club to confront
No account is required. Enter your name and email address in the WordPress comment form. Your email address is not displayed publicly.
Suggestions will inform future Monthly Debates, although submission does not guarantee selection. Related proposals may be combined into a broader question.
